A little game room spruce up

Well hello there! Its been a while since I stopped by, no? What can I say...
"Life, blah, blah, blah..." No sense recapping where I've been, lets get on to the goodies, shall we?

So, a few weeks back, the hubs and I invested in 2 gorgeous Natuzzi leather recliners for his little boy video game playroom our gameroom area. Its on the large landing as you come up the stairs, and is the perfect spot to hang out and play Xbox and Wii. And now that we've started decortaing that area, I have a few fun things in mind to spruce it up, while keeping it bright, fun & a little silly.
(Now all I need is a Kinect & Dance Central. Dance party at our house!)

The Art of the Bar Cart

Say that 5 times fast..."The art of the bar cart...the art of the...." Yikes. Can't do it. Maybe because while organizing everything for my home bar area, I partook in of some of the decor. Don't judge. Like you wouldn't do the same thing. 

These images have me inspired to put together a fancy little bar cart in our kitchen. I'm now on the hunt for a cute vintage piece (maybe something like this?) to serve as the cart.

I can't wait to make these, and these...oh, and these.

Closet Organization Extravaganza!

Sounds fancy right? Well good. Because it totally is. Another one of my goals for my
30 before 30 project was to get our closet super duper organized. I spent last weekend running to Ikea about a billion times (shoe shelves? check. scarf organizer? check. awesome baskets? double check.), throwing everything out of the closet and making husband try on (and get rid of) lots of stuff. I was basically a tornado. So, here are the before pics (almost too embarrassing to post) and the afters (organized oasis for fashion) as well as some helpful organizing tips. This has already made our lives so much simpler in the mornings. And I adore walking into our peaceful closet everyday.

Closet Organization Tips:

1. Bookshelves (we used the Ikea Billy Bookcase + the Height Extension Unit 
   + 3 extra shelves) can be modified to make great inexpensive shoe shelves- 
   just add extra shelves for more space. 
   Now we can see all our shoes!

2. Pretty baskets (Ikea Pjas) keep sweaters, bags, scarves and hats easily
    within reach, but look more orderly than just stacking everything on shelves.
    Plus, we don't have towers of folded sweaters constantly toppling over.

3. Add a rug to dress up your closet. This one is a vintage one of my grandmother's.
    It should be as beautiful, cozy & inviting as any other room.

4. Hooks keep all your necklaces and small handbags in plain site, and keep
    them from becoming a tangled mess.

5. I used a basket to hold all my flip flops so they don't get scattered all over
    the closet floor and so they don't take up valuable space on our lovely shoe shelves.

6. Matching hangers keep everything at the same height and look cleaner than a
    jumble of different ones. (I am going to invest in huggable ones, just haven't
    gotten around to it yet...) 

7. Keep boots upright and in good condition by rolling an old magazine and putting
    it in the boot shaft. Works like a charm.

Good morning lovelies! Um, wow, Wednesday got here fast, huh? Yeah, I noticed that too. My days have been flying by!

You know how they say "ask and you shall receive?" Well, I've been praying for a new job and more design work for a while and boy, have my prayers been answered. This month I got a new full time job with a FANTASTIC design agency and took on 3 new freelance clients! Add that to keeping up with the housework, training for our half marathon at the end of the month, and trying to sneak in an occasional shower, and it all adds up to one nutty schedule for yours truly. I don't need to sleep right?

And, as a treat for all my hard work, I've decided that this new job (with a new desk) requires some super cute office supplies to sass the place up. I've been drawn to animal inspired officy goods lately and will definitley be adding some of these cuties to my new work home. (Especially the Birds on a Wire photo clips, Magnetic Desktop Birdie, & and Morris the Donkey Memo Pad...ok, seriously, who am I kidding, I want them all...)

I couldn't be more excited about all the new opportunites and can't wait to see what the future holds.
